ok sorry, back to today. The day started off pretty normal. We went to the school to hash out our week and future lines of inquiry with the ocho as well as discuss the gameplan for next week. Then we skyped with Dr Ryan about our conclusions and ideas. It was all very organic.
Then Sarita and i did some work on the computador, and went for lunch at this cute little Torta place. And yes it was probably a health hazard but we ate those peppers and they were good!
and then got ready for our next interview. (yay for english speakers) After our interview we typed it up and wrote observations and journaled for several hours.
Now back to the original story.... It so turns out that we were invited to have dinner at one of the ladies houses from church at 7pm. *for clarification i will just call her Juanita*
So like good little Americans we get to our meeting spot like fifteen minutes early for the fun to begin... and waited for Juanita.
we wandered around and took lots of pictures. Gift and Lindsey called Juanita at about 20 minutes past the time she was supposed to meet us and she was "on her way".
So we relaxed and waited some more...
until the pigeons perched up on the cathedral decided to play a little game called Bomber Pigeon.
Bomber 1 took a shot at Swiemo in an effort to cause a diversion so Bomber 2 would be in the clear for Emily. Bomber 2 definitely switched from guns to missiles...
Our poor Emily took it like a champ and was a great sport about it.
Juanita finally arrived and took us to her "house". She mentions casually as we enter this palace of a house that there are three bedrooms and she can rent it out to us. Weird but whatever. She shows us the terrace and then takes us to see the view from the roof.
It was a fantastic view with a great breeze - it was really nice. Juanita disappears and we amuse ourselves for a while just talking and joking and taking random pictures....
Finally we decide to go downstairs only to find the door locked & there is no answer to our knocking and constant !Holaaaa!
Juanita is no longer in the house. And we are locked on the roof.
Lindsey calls her froma cell phone and Juantia is at the store with her daughter. Lo siento is all she can say. So we wait some more...
As visions of being cooked for dinner and not being cooked for dance through our head...
My lovely little research partner goes into Mission Impossible mode and comes up with plan A. Sarah: "Ok guys, all we gotta do is climb up this little wall like so... then shimmie to the other side and jump across to the balcony, go through the open door and unlock the door to the stairs. Tada! Oh but without slipping or falling to our death.... So Gift you wanna go??"
As concerned cohort members plead with the suicidal maniacs, they come down from the edge and return to the firm footing of the roof...
don't worry- there is plan B....
The time is getting later and the rain clouds are starting to mist a little...
but don't worry we are not afraid! This ocho is very resourceful. With just a bucket and bottle caps strewn around a roof you can play lots of games... like throw the caps in the bucket...
or mini softball....
Juanita and her daughter finally come back and let us inside... still not sure if it was on purpose or not,, a mystery never fully explained....we have a seat in this museum of a house and wait in great anticipation of our future dinner plans since it had been almost 2 hours since we left our hotel...
they serve us the juice and coke that we brought and we suspiciously don't smell anything cooking...
We chat with the family to find that they actually don't live here but on the level below...(so they say) They rent this part of the house out to tourists and *cough* research students like ourselves.... then they graciously decide to give us a tour... It is only 1500 dollars a month.
After our quick tour we are escorted out to end our evening together. Juanita says goodnight and if we will be at church on sunday...
We say goodbye and head off back to our hotel.
As we are walking away, Emily says, "Dominoes delivers"....
