A typical day so far....
I wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed between 5:30 and 6am.
(I know, right? My alarm is set for 6:30....)
Thanks jet lag. But the morning is actually quite nice.
Dark and cold. But nice.
Thennn after a shower, breakfast, some reading, and making my lunch... since i apparently have a lot of time on my hands, i am ON TIME and i mean five or ten til on time... you should sit back and recover from such shocking information. go ahead. enjoy this thought.
The above pic is our street.
Walls, guards, electric or barbed fences decorate the road.
Kiley picks me up at 8 am and we head to the office.
I have a desk! that's right.
Our office is located in an old children's memorial hospital along with 51 other NGO's - quite convenient for partnerships!! Lefika la phodiso stands for "the rock of holding" - found that out this week. There is an office/reception room, a breakroom, the studio, a private room for one-on-one therapy sessions, and an installation in the foyer area in honor of the xenophobic attacks last year in south africa.
This year's holiday program is themed around "Me and My World" - a month long program to offer healthy meals to children out of school, to offer various creative and therapeutic ways to express themselves through dance, soccer, crafts, painting, photography, beadwork, and yoga.
Safety is also a huge theme that is being interwoven alongside identity to offer tools for the children to decrease the risk of child trafficking which is an increasing problem particularly this summer during the World Cup.
late afternoon we close up the office and Kiley drops me at the house.
To enjoy the last 30 min or so of sunlight (it gets soo dark here so early!!) I play ball with my friends- Chloe and Thom. Thom is pretty good, he'll score on you. He can kick the ball to you with his paws or nose.
then i usually spend the evening finishing work/emails or eating dinner and watching Grey's with Hayley and their family. Its a long tiring day but always interesting and usually very fun!!
