FabIndia

So I am finally here! yeah!! The past few days have been a blurr of faces and names... some info sticks but a lot doesn't. Or maybe it just goes into hibernation...like bears in the winter... so i'm hoping that it will surface again when i need it.
So day one in the great sandwhich city...I had a day of many firsts. Including my first rides on bicycle and auto rickshaws. It should be one of the wonders of the world - arriving at your destination without having a heartattack. It is an event of unparallel delight and sheer terror all at the same time. you are swerving, dipping, bumpin along (on the wrong side of the street i might add) to the constant jive of the "delhi honk.." Basically, if you drive -you honk... need a blinker? just honk...Need to stop? Just honk... Want to say hey? just honk.... Here the bumper stickers say "please use horn". Besides..I found out that there are lines on the roads sometimes and once in a while you pass a traffic light... but these things are really more like guidelines than actual rules.
<--This picture is taken at the Turtle tea shop. I also had the privilege of shopping at FabIndia... aka India Gap as we call it. It reminded me a little of Sam Moon on a saturday morning only with salwars and dupatas flying through the air instead of purses and jewelry. It was great. The dressing rooms were called "trying rooms" i thought that was fun. Also i saw this sign and my first thought was.. books!!! but then i liked it even more when i read the name out loud- heres to you Texas.. "hooked on phonics worked for me"
Day 2 involved a lot of logistical work and setting up our computers. And in true Quad 31 fashion we had ... that's right... Dominoes pizza for lunch. After lunch, the ladies headed out to the market for some good shopping deals...and for nose pins. the lady that did ours was so sweet. we chatted with her after we picked out our nose ring so she could saw the end of it into a sharp point. Basically she dabbed a bit of alcohol on my nose, and shoved the newly filed "pin" into my nose, clipped of the end and used pliers to close up the end. It really wasn't bad... i'm going more for effect.
after that i headed to dinner with some newly acquired friends... and what to my wondering eyes should appear?? but beef and chicken soft tacos with chips and queso. It was beautiful.
Sorry molli no elephants yet but here is your cow to tie you over for now...
Beki and I have decided that we are getting a donkey...perhaps call him Stallion to boost his ego... instant transportation and shopping cart combo... and they can ward off the monkeys.
